New Delhi/London CNN —In just a few days, India will commence the world’s largest democratic election. So, is the hype around Modi’s India, which remains a largely impoverished country, justified? The world’s largest biometric database has also helped the government save millions by reducing corruption in welfare initiatives. Domestic investors, both retail and institutional, have been driving India’s stock market to unprecedented peaks. Still, India’s economy, much like its democracy, is far from perfect.

Three of the five states in contention have witnessed a tough battle between Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress party. BJP has been in power in one of the states, Congress in two, and regional parties in the remaining two. At least nine exit polls predicted Congress party's victory in mineral-rich Chattisgarh and Telangana state. A regional party was set to win again in the northeastern state of Mizoram, according to two exit polls. Politicians and analysts also note that state elections do not always influence the outcome of the general elections or indicate national voter mood.

Building a successful climate school that both educates people and scales up technological solutions in its accelerator arm requires thinking beyond the bubble of Silicon Valley. Majumdar's understanding of the importance of a global perspective for the climate school is also personally informed. He was also a professor, did research, and worked at Google for a stint before eventually getting the opportunity to lead the launch of the Stanford climate school. The lessons he learned at ARPA-E are helping form the foundation for the accelerator arm at the Stanford climate school.
